Playing With Fire

Autumn is on the way, and it’s time to start enjoying cooler weather with an outdoor fire table. This table has a 20-pound propane tank hidden underneath the table, with propane directed to a bowl to feed a fire. Fireglass in the bowl lends to a cheery fire on chilly evening. My fire table includes a piezo-electric lighter to start the fire, but it has never worked well. I could instead use one of those long-stem butane lighters to start the fire, but where is the fun in that?

So I came up with a means of lighting the fire with an EV3 invention. A LEGO® touch sensor gives a signal to create a shower of sparks, in turn lighting the fire. The video above shows just the electric match going off, without propane turned on. The video below shows the propane fire being started.

As for how this is done, maybe I should keep this a secret . . .
